more BMW than a BMW when it first came out - you want the one with the original grill, not that that refresh grill

Yeah, they really butchered the car with the facelift. I don’t know why so many automakers do that - if the change isn’t going to be an improvement, then don’t make the change.

I would do dirty things to the car exec who decides to bring those seats back. They look so comfy.

But according to most auto makers cars need to be sporty, they so have put in uncomfortable over bolstered seats for car that does not need them that is spectacularly underwhelmingly sporty.

No bolstering, but I bet you’d get a good nap in one.

That’s the previous generation. Here’s the pre-facelift version of the one you posted:
BUT, the older generation was some big Japanese hawtness:
And you could even get a wagon:

A couple years ago, some guy on Twitter got in a terrible t-bone accident in one of these and only had a few scratches. Comedy pages were saying that the Fendi belt he was wearing saved him.

I had a high school friend whose parents had one and you would of thought they bought a goddamn Bentley the way he used to say “D-ah-mon-te.”
The thing died a horrible death when his sister tried to drive it for a couple hours on a highway with she shifted into I think second(she had shifted the auto selector past d into either second or third and ran the damn thing way too high in the rev range for like 120 miles).

I remember when they were made in Adelaide...the wagons were better. The best one was the AWD turbo version.
There's still quite a few around down here.

They even made a VRX version:

I do, my dad worked for a Toyota/Mitsubish/Daihatsu dealership in the early Nineties. He had a 1st gen Eclipse as his first demo vehicle, then a Daihatsu Rocky, both were pretty cool.

I always thought those looked a little like the Jaguar XJS from behind - not quite the buttresses but somehow the shape of the C-pillar made me think of it.

Bolstered seats that remind when your ass has gotten fatter, I might add...
